Broken solar PV system: Case study
This case study is not a show of a complex project but goes to show the ethical nature of Solar Plant’s approach to installations and how we go the ‘extra mile’, sometimes at our cost, to ensure that customers always are left with a positive experience of Solar PV. This lady’s faith has been restored in the Solar PV industry and the following is written by the customer herself.
Written by Jan:
In November 2013, I had a 3.92 KW solar panel installation by a UK solar PV company, totally unrelated to Solar Plants. The solar PV installation was abysmal and dangerous and I engaged in an 18 month legal process utilising the solar Industry and electrical regulatory bodies in an effort to get remedial works undertaken.
After a very protracted process, I won my case and had an order in my favour. I was left in the dreadful situation where I had used the family savings in having the original installation done and then the last of our collective money in trying to gain restitution, only to be left with a dangerous and almost none functioning solar PV system, that was letting water into my roof space and had, in an 18 month period, produced only 1557.4 kWh. I was desperate and not to put too fine a point on it, bereft.
I had exhausted what I thought was all my available options. However, casting my pride to one side, late one night, I wrote to Mr Simon Huber at SolarEdge UK and threw myself onto his mercy, asking if he and his company could see any way to assist me in my predicament. SolarEdge UK, entered into conversations with Solar Plants, who, to my absolute surprise and delight, agreed to send a team of men to my home. They replaced my faulty solar panel inverter and added power optimisers to optimise my solar panel system. They reinstalled wiring that was hitherto dangerous, with the intention of giving me a working system.
Since that time (the remedial work was completed on 2/4/2015) I have had the benefit of a solar panel system that works, is safe, and I have a roof that no longer leaks! In just over 4 months since the excellent team of men from Solar Plants completed the work on my roof and in my loft, the previous broken solar panel system has generated 1885kWh.
My family and I cannot begin to express my thanks to SolarEdge UK and Solar Plants UK. The Solar Plants team were excellent. They were courteous, clean and very proficient workers. The whole team should be commended and deserve the highest accolades, having restored my faith in human nature and gone above and beyond anything I could possibly have expected or, indeed, hoped for.
There is so much more I could say and I have plentiful documentation and written evidence that I can provide to you to evidence all that I have written above. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information about the previous faulty solar panel installation or the incredible work completed by Solar Plants UK on my behalf.
So what is the latest from Jan?
Hello Solar Plants,
I hope you are well and business is good.
I’m writing to you because tomorrow, 02/04/16, is the first anniversary of my new solar panel system since you replaced the broken solar inverter and optimised the system.
You might remember that my previous system had only generated just short of 1800 kWh in an 18 month period. I have just taken a reading, as even though your men switched the system back on, at 1 pm on the 2.4.15, tonight is near enough I think to call this it’s annual check. As of just now, my meter reading is 2938.83 kWh.
I cannot express to you how grateful I am, and will always remain to you and your company. I always said when I was trying to get help through REAL and RECC that if, after the dreadful first solar PV install company, I could get anywhere near 3000 units, I would be massively grateful.
Thank you again. You have no idea just what you and your team did for me when you set out to sort this mess out for me.
With more gratitude than I can ever convey,
